Details | Estimating the demand for differentiated products is indispensable for research that examines various issues of industrial organization theory and marketing science such as brand value evaluation, brand power and market setting. However, the data available to researchers are often only the market share of a product and its attributes and characteristics. Therefore, it is necessary to have an economic model that links consumer spending behavior of maximizing its own utility to market share. In this study, we develop a new model based on the method developed in the fields of applied econometrics and empirical industrial organization, and we also apply the model to the American automobile market, which has been studied in many previous studies. We seek a new insight to this market fully utilizing knowledge developed within the empirical industrial organization and marketing science. |
