Details This study, based on the data obtained by tracing 598 sex offenders held in prisons all over Japan for 3-5 years after being released, analyzed the recidivism deterrence effect of the sex offender treatment program (hereinafter referred to as the program). It was evaluated by a parametric survival analysis after removing the influence of confounding factors using the propensity score analysis. We found the following: (1) the course of recidivism was different between those who were imprisoned for molesting (perverted group) and those who were not (non-perverted group); (2) in the molester group, the program had a significant recidivism suppression effect; (3) The non-molester group has a program effect up to about 500 days after the release; (4) the molester group has a higher recidivism rate than the non-molester group regardless of whether or not they took the program.
