Details | This two-day conference on the theme of Transformations was held 15-16 October 2016, and featured a number of different guests who showed transformative media versions of Irish literature in terms of film, digital archives, and performance. Translator Mitsuko Ohno introduced new works by Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill performed in Japanese translation on samisen (Takahashi Chikuzan, jr) and piano (Oda Tomomi) for all participants at the international conference, including filmmaker Alan Gilsenan who screened A Vision: A Life of WB Yeats, concerned with the poet's fascination with the occult and otherworldly, and theatre and drama scholar Professor Patrick Lonergan, who discussed the digitalization of the archives of the Abbey Theatre and how it has profoundly changed the way we read archives. It was an amazing two days of transformative performance and scholarly approaches to Irish studies. |
