Language | Japanese | Publication Date | 2022/06 | Type | Review Article or Commentary (Scientific Journal) | Invitation | With invitation | Title | Groups for adolescents, groups for parents: Enhancing mentalization | Contribution Type | Single Work | Journal | Japanese Journal of Adolescent Psychiatry | Journal Type | Japan | Publisher | Japanese Society for Adolescent Psychiatry | Volume, Issue, Pages | pp.25-34 | Details | Theory and method of adolescent therapy group and parent psychoeducation group were discussed based on the theory of mentalization and the methodology of MBT. The major aim of those group is to improve the mental health problems by enhancing mentalization. This is expected to happen not only between the member and the therapist, but also in a mentalizing relationship among members. Mentalization can be enhanced through both interpersonal relationships and through the implementation of activities. Along with the function of contingent, marked mirroring and the significance of not-knowing stance, examples of activities that enhance mentalization were described. These were illustrated through case studies: one about a case with developmental disorder and the other regarding how trauma is expressed and handled from a mentalizing perspective. The framework of a mentalization psychoeducational group to support parents was also introduced. | |
