Suzanne Quay is a Professor at International Christian University in Tokyo, Japan, specializing in child language and multilingualism. Her current research involves weekend school children, foreign and heritage language learning, and code-switching/translanguaging practices. She is the co-editor with Simona Montanari of Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Multilingualism: The Fundamentals (2019, De Gruyter) and the co-author with Margaret Deuchar of Bilingual Acquisition: Theoretical Implications of a Case Study (2000, Oxford University Press). She was the guest editor in 2011 of ‘Trilingual Children in the Making: Data-driven insights’ for the International Journal of Multilingualism (IJM) and has published in journals such as First Language, Journal of Child Language, International Journal of Bilingual Education and Bilingualism, Languages, and Deafness and Education International (DEI). She is currently on the Editorial Boards of IJM and the Journal of Multilingual and Multicultural Development, and formerly of DEI (1999–2018), reflecting an interest in multilingualism in both hearing and deaf communities.
