Recent studies further reported that the trajectories of the Net Score across five blocks in the regular group are categorized into four typologies, and that the Total Net Score differs among each typology. In this study, we compared the US (Steingroever et al., 2013; N=75)and Japanese (Ogihara et al., 2023; N=89) datasets of college students under the hypothesis that differences in the composition within those typologies cause differences in the Mean Total Net Score among the regular groups. Simultaneous multi-population analyses demonstrated that the trajectories of the two typologies of the four matched; however, their composition did not, partially confirming the hypothesis. We discussed these results in terms of the cross-validity of the IGT. | URL for researchmap | https://hyogo-u.repo.nii.ac.jp/records/2000315

Previous studies have found high rates of victimization among female offenders. Among victimization experiences, childhood abuse is an important factor that causes increased depression and lowered self-esteem. This study aims to clarify the mechanisms by which childhood and later adulthood experiences of victimization mediate the decline in self-esteem and increase depression.

We assume manufacturers can observe such behavior as well as the retail price itself. We first derive the retail margins from a retailer maximizing its profit, assuming that the retailer anticipates the manufacturer's profit-maximizing response to the price pass-through behavior. The manufacturer margins are derived from the generalized Nash bargaining with the retailer, where the parties negotiate the wholesale price. A toy Bayesian estimation example using daily scanner panel data for canned tuna at a single retail chain in western Tokyo, Japan, demonstrates the applicability of our model. | URL for researchmap | https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0969698923003521

are able to show that it is just as possible to characterize the choice situation without a single operation involving them and relate that back to the utilities using the additive logratio transform of the utility of agent i choosing alternative j to the baseline or outside alternative j = 0. With the latter derivation, statisticians additionally gain sufficiency information as well.

The subjects are 202 female inmates incarcerated for Violating the Stilnulant Drug Control Law shortly before their release from Japanese penal institutions between January and May 2016.
Estimation by the structural equation model indicates that higher self-esteem is less likely to be associated with developing depression, and depression is more likely to be correlated with drug addiction. However, we find that the influences of victimization experiences during childhood or adulthood are not significant for this group of female
inmates. These results align with the more recent findings by Carbone-Lopez & Miller (2012 )and Smith(2017). We discuss the implications of the result. | DOI | http://dx.doi.org/10.2333/jbhmk.49.175

In 2016, the WHO recommended that Jordan prioritize their list of zoonoses, partially in response to the influx of Syrian refugees. We write this paper to expand the One Health framework by situating zoonotic diseases in peacebuilding and development theories in order to prioritize zoonotic diseases in Jordan. We employ an explanatory sequential mixed methods approach to create a modified version of the Center for Disease Control's One Health Zoonotic Disease Prioritization tool. We find it necessary to give socioeconomic factors greater consideration and to distribute weighting more evenly among all criteria within the tool when prioritizing zoonotic diseases in better reflect the Jordanian context and incorporate the refugee population. We find the priority zoonoses within Jordan to be bovine tuberculosis, brucellosis, and COVID-19, with most having a disproportionately negative impact on refugees. | DOI | https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0265508 | ISSN | 1932-6203 | Put Code(ORCID) | https://orcid.org/0000-0003-3655-733X | PermalinkURL | https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0265508 | URL for researchmap | https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0265508

Previous studies have shown different subtypes with varying levels of deviation. Using latent class analysis, we analyzed the aggressive behavior score and rule-breaking behavior score of the Adult Self-Report (ASR) of 37 Japanese college students. The results revealed four latent classes: a low deviant behavior class (30%), a low to medium deviant behavior class (51%), a medium deviant behavior class (8%), and a highly deviant behavior class (11%). The aggressive behavior score of the highly deviant behavior class was in the clinical range of ASR, and their rule-breaking score was in the borderline range. These findings confirm the existence of a highly deviant group among college students, as found in previous studies. | ISSN | 1345-5184 | NAID | AA11433027

Additionally, we tested the equivalence of these versions using a biological equivalence test. We randomly assigned 63 undergraduate and graduate students from several Japanese universities to our parallel design experiment. We evaluated equivalence by determining differences between the logs of the number of cards chosen from the advantageous decks in five blocks in the Japanese and English versions. We defined an equivalence margin as ± 30% (log (0.70 = -0.36, log (1/0.70) = 0.36, for log-transformation). All two-sided 90% family-wise confidence intervals in the five blocks were within the equivalence margin. Our results confirmed the equivalence of the Japanese and English versions of the IGT. The Japanese version can be used with the compiled executables and source code without charge. Future comparative studies should evaluate the IGT on Japanese or between samples from Japan and other countries. | DOI | https://doi.org/10.4992/jjpsy.93.20232 | ISSN | 0021-5236

However, as some have argued, it is less clear whether such an effort is still rewarding in terms of margin if manufacturers are losing power to retailers. To investigate this issue, we conduct an economic analysis in the Japanese yogurt market incorporating strategic interaction between manufacturers and a retailer as well as between manufacturers by extending the framework employed in the earlier literature to incorporate the retailer Stackelberg game. This framework can reflect the possible power shift from manufacturers to retailers. We find the margin of manufacturers on special featured brands are larger than those on the others. In this research, we successfully portray the symmetrical relationship between manufacturer and retailer Stackelberg games, whereby the vertical Nash game is located in the midpoint of those two games. | DOI | https://doi.org/10.1080/23322039.2016.1221231

This bandwidth does not stabilize variance over the domain. Moreover, in regions where a regression function has zero curvature, the LL estimator is discontinuous. In this paper, we propose a variance-stabilizing (VS) local variable diagonal bandwidth matrix for the multivariate LL estimator. Theoretically, the VS bandwidth can outperform the multivariate extension of the MSE-minimizing local variable scalar bandwidth in terms of asymptotic mean integrated squared error and can avoid discontinuity created by the MSE-minimizing bandwidth. We present an algorithm for estimating the VS bandwidth and simulation studies. | DOI | 10.1007/s00181-013-0777-3

In this paper, we propose a Bayesian estimation for MS-AIDS model and illustrate applicability of our proposed method. We then run two sets of simulation studies to confirm the validity of the proposed method. Since the publication of Yuma. Kanazawa, and Yuma (2010), two more yearly data sets become available and we include them in this study. For 16-17 age group, our results are consistent with our previous study. For 18-19 age group, on the other hand, we find its homicide rate significantly dropped in 2000, while the effect of unemployment on homicide-higher unemployment rate is associated with higher homicide rate-have been consistently observed during the research period as in our previous study. These results are discussed in terms of the dramatic rise in Japanese suicide rate since 1998 and the public opinion calling for more severe punishment since the late 90s. | DOI | https://doi.org/10.11218/ojjams.27.149

Previous studies such as Peterson and Chen (2005) and Ishida et al. (2010) assumed that structural change points in demands were already known and they specified transition functions at the change points. On the other hand, we detected the structural change points without any prior information about change points. To assess the structural change points in the Japanese meat market, we employed the Markov-Switching Almost Ideal Demand System (MS-AIDS) model (Allais and Nichèle, 2007). In this study, we found the structural change point coinciding with the timing of the first reported case of BSE, but not of bird flu. | DOI | http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/13504851.2011.650328

Employing the same principle, we propose the Nadaraya-Watson regression estimator with variable variance-stabilizing bandwidth (VS bandwidth) that minimizes asymptotic MISE (AMISE) while maintaining asymptotic homoscedasticity. We examine its local and global properties relative to the MISE minimizing fixed bandwidth. The proposed VS bandwidth produces the asymptotic variance smaller on some part of the support than the fixed bandwidth and may in some cases achieve smaller AMISE than its fixed counterpart. In numerical examples, we find that the proposed VS bandwidth is more serviceable when the distribution of X's are flatter. | DOI | 10.5109/1434311 | ISSN | 2435743X/0286522X

This study attempted to integrate both of the perspectives in a single causal model. Specifically, using data collected from systems engineers and car salespeople in Japan, we investigated the mediating role of intrinsic motivation in the links from openness and conscientiousness to continuous learning, and the moderating role of occupation on the mediation mechanism. The results indicated that, for systems engineers, the effects of those personality traits on continuous learning were completely mediated via intrinsic motivation. For car salespeople, however, the trait effects on the outcome variable are direct, rather than transmitted through intrinsic motivation. The meanings of the findings and directions for future research are discussed. | DOI | https://doi.org/10.1111/j.1468-5884.2010.00447.x | ISSN | 00215368

Japanese society went through momentous changes in this period. Did a stable relationship (the so-called "cointegration") between the Japanese unemployment rate and the juvenile homicide rate exist for a while but then switch to a new "long-term" relationship? Employing Gregory and Hansen's (1996a, 1996b) residual-based tests for cointegration to permit such trend/regime shifts, we found a stable long-term relationship between the unemployment rate and the homicide rate for both the 16-17-year-old juvenile group and the 18-19-year-old juvenile group but did not find any structural changes. These results demonstrated that unemployment and homicide rates increased consistently during the period. We discuss the implications of these results. | DOI | https://doi.org/10.20621/jjscrim.35.0_115 | ISSN | 24241695/0386460X | NAID | 110007817643

We employ the logit/individual lognormal split-population model to examine the relationship between the form of treatment and the time until, as well as the probability of, eventual reincarceration. We obtained and analyzed official crime data from the Japanese Ministry of Justice and found that, in terms of probability, delinquents sent to training schools for long-term and general short-term programs were less likely to be reincarecerated than those placed on probation, but we did not find the same pattern for individuals who were enrolled in the special short-term program. However, none of the three programs significantly affected the timing of reincarceration relative to probation. We discuss the implications of these results.

Relatively less attention, however, has been paid to the identification of psychological individual differences in intrinsic motivation. The present study tested a model in which a personality-based view of intrinsic motivation is prominent. Specifically, we investigated whether two of the Big-5 personality dimensions, conscientiousness and openness to experience, would affect intrinsic motivation. The results indicated that those two personality traits could be significant predictors of intrinsic motivation with the effects of taskrelated motivators (e.g., ability utilization, achievement, task variety, etc.) controlled for. The meaning of the findings and directions for future research are discussed. | DOI | https://doi.org/10.5651/jaas.22.117

As a result, it has become essential for both men and women to balance work and family responsibilities. Companies are now introducing family-friendly benefits and policies, and more studies are being conducted to understand the impact of these measures on work-family conflict and employee retention. A recent study in Japan explored how supportive workplace policies affect turnover intention through work-family conflict. The findings showed that while direct and indirect effects were not significant, the link between work-family conflict and turnover intention was significant. The implications of these findings and future research directions are discussed. | DOI | https://dx.doi.org/10.1504/IJHRDM.2007.017137 | ISSN | 1465-6612/1741-5160

We measure effectiveness by the times elapsed from release to reincarceration in the Juvenile Classification Homes. We employ a proportional hazards model to examine the relationship between the form of treatment and the elapsed times to re-incarceration. The effect of treatment in training schools is found to be complex. Institutionalization of the late-starting first-time offenders (N = 5,675) and of the early-starting repeat offenders (N = 158) is associated with significantly longer times to re-incarceration. However, for the late-starting repeat offenders (N = 946), we do not find any positive effect of training schools. | DOI | http://doi.org/10.2333/bhmk.33.149

Predicting the maintenance and repair cost is difficult because many of these durable goods do not have constant failure rates. For some durable products such as automobiles, it is often the case that we have at least a rough idea as to their reliability. In this study we propose and illustrate a method to convert automobile reliability data in the U.S. to their monetary maintenance and repair cost. We first estimate a statistical model from the widely available reliability data. Then we predict the reliability from the model. Finally we convert the predicted reliability to cost figures. The proposed statistical model takes care of the possible bias introduced by partially missing reliability data. Conversion to cost figure is done on the twenty-six 1996-model-year vehicles popular in the U.S. during 1992--1999. | DOI | https://doi.org/10.24747/jma.13.1-2_3 | ISSN | 09187863 | NAID | 110007629483

We hypothesized that the positive relationship between conscientiousness and sales performance would be mediated by continuous learning. We tested the hypothesis by the structural equation model with latent variable using the data gathered from the 139 sales representatives working for a large Japanese information system company listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, We found that conscientiousness significantly affected on continuous learning, but that continuous learning did not significantly influence sales performance. Oour hypothesis was not supported by the data. We also found that openness to experience and the degree of the sales representative's perception of competitiveness in the market environment were positively correlated with continuous learning. We discuss implications of the study. | DOI | http://doi.org/10.5651/jaas.15.29

This paper examines the three alternative treatments in Japan relative to the most used oral steroids for the two prevalent forms of RPGN, PautiCrGN, and MPA. The response of exitus is potentially non-ignorably missing because the data were reported by those who administered the treatment. We use the method Ibrahim (1996) proposed for estimating parameters in the binomial logistic model when the missing response is potentially nonignorable. For PautiCrGN patients, we found that the three alternative treatments did not seem to affect their survival. MPA patients who underwent the steroid pulse or the cyclophosphamide with the oral steroid seemed less likely to have survived compared with those who received the oral steroid only. | DOI | http://doi.org/10.5691/jjb.21.13

We treated nonresponses as nonignorably missing, in the sense that “DON'T KNOW” responses are related to the answer of the question in some partially unknown way. We proposed a method to estimate parameters in a logit model when the covariates are nonignorably missing. The method simultaneously employed two generalized linear models. We found the existence of false negatives. For PautiCrGN patients, their exitus was not non-ignorably missing at first sight, but the exitus of serious patients might have been under-reported precisely because of their conditions. | DOI | http://doi.org/10.2333/bhmk.27.181

The DK answers, concentrated on answers to the questions regarding the support for the current cabinet and political ideology, are treated as missing because there is no valid reason to treat them as one separate category. We perform logistic regression analysis of binary response whether the interviewee has a political party to support or not on several political and economic explanatory variables, within which the EM algorithm is implemented. We found that missing-value problem could not be ignored in the sense that marginally significant or insignificant explanatory variables can easily turn otherwise when the same model is fitted only for the data with no missing-values. | DOI | http://doi.org/10.2333/bhmk.25.133

A variable cell histogram requires cutpoints and heights of all of its cells to be specified. We propose the following procedure: (i) choose from the order statistics corresponding to the sample a set of k+1 cutpoints that maximize a criterion, a function of the sample spacings; (ii) compute heights of the k cells according to a formula. The resulting histogram estimates a k-cell theoretical histogram that stays constant within a cell and minimizes the Hellinger distance to the density f. The histogram tends to estimate low-density regions accurately and is easy to compute. We find the number of cells of order n^(1/3) minimizes the mean Hellinger distance between the density f and a class of histograms whose cutpoints are chosen from the order statistics. | DOI | DOI: 10.1214/aos/1176348523

The procedure chooses a set of cutpoints that maximizes a criterion function based on the sample spacings:Under some conditions, this estimated set of cutpoints is shown to converge in probability to the theoretical set of cutpoints for the histogram estimate that minimizes the Hellingerdistance to the underlying density. An algorithm for finding the set of cutpoints that numerically maximizes the criterion function is presented along with an example. Economic theory | Responsibility | Representative Researcher | Representative Person | Yuichiro KANAZAWA | Details | This research subject has two themes:
In (Research 1), in order to enable accurate and nuanced analysis, strategic behaviors of manufacturer vs. retailer are modeled using the Nash bargaining. Then, we propose a structural model of expressing the competitive state of each channel and conduct empirical analysis. Special attention is paid to so-called "disagreement payoffs"incurring to the agensts when negotiations fail.
.
In (Research 2), we start with the assumption that the conventional discrete choice model is not properly represented by a geometry suitable for it and, as a result, that no statistical estimation method suitable for the model has been proposed, we will deepen our understanding of the model and its underlying utility under more appropriate Aitchison geometry..
, And propose an estimation method that is consistent with it.

trustworthiness is based on expectations of how another individual will behave.Despite the importance of this appraisal for understanding when trust actually occurs, research has thus far focused much more on understanding the nature of trust than on understanding assessments of what makes an individual trustworthy (Levine et al., 2018, Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, 115(3)). In this study, we make an important contribution to the trust and trustworthiness literature by testing how robust the Ability-Benevolence-Integrity hypothesis across 11 countries, while answering the call to contextualize trust research by explicitly
examining the bases for determining trustworthiness within role relationships.

We examine factors that may affect the effectiveness of sex crime deterrence programs for sex offenders based on previous studies, theories, and preliminary analyses, we find the following two factos to be predictive: Whether the incarcerated is a molester or not and whether the risk of recidivism against sex crimes is high or low. We then study the interaction between these two factors and the sex crime prevention programs.

We examined whether or not there were 6238 boys who first entered juvenile discrimination centers throughout Japan in 1991. When analyzed using the hierarchical population split survival analysis model, the main effects of attachment to parents, the unemployment rate, and the difference in the full unemployment rate from the previous year are all significant in the direction consistent with the theoretical prediction. In addition, the interaction of the two variables on parental attachment and the unemployment rate was also found to be significant.

These are spillover, compensation, and segmentation (separation). These models argue that there are positive, negative, and uncorrelated relationships between attitudes in both life domains. We found that we should not ask which of these three models is correct, but consider factors such as individual values and individual differences such as personality, and environmental factors such as employment conditions, family conditions, and social and historical contexts. However, the data available to researchers are often only the market share of a product and its attributes and characteristics. Therefore, it is necessary to have an economic model that links consumer spending behavior of maximizing its own utility to market share. In this study, we develop a new model based on the method developed in the fields of applied econometrics and empirical industrial organization, and we also apply the model to the American automobile market, which has been studied in many previous studies. We seek a new insight to this market fully utilizing knowledge developed within the empirical industrial organization and marketing science. | Permalink URL | https://kaken.nii.ac.jp/ja/report/KAKENHI-PROJECT-16510103/165101032007kenkyu_seika_hokoku_gaiyo/
